Hey Caustic,

I really do want the Hardware gurus to take a look at this. They will be online either later tonight, or tomorrow. UK and Australia . So be patient and keep an eye out for their posts.

Hey Caustic,

You don't need to Add New Hardware wizard. If Windows can see the drive, Windows will show up with "New Hardware Found" and automatically install the drive for you. You will see the drive in Control Panel, System, Hardware tab, Device Manager.

If the HDD has failed, then you won't be able to retrieve the data, but is the drive being picked up in BIOS OK?

sorry, but i did mean new hardware found. i could see it in the device manager, but no where else. i even uninstalled it and reinstalled it.

as i said in a previous post, the bios will find it if its anything but a slave.

So in Device Manager, the properties of the device shows as working properly?

As for your master/slave problem, when you are setting it to master, are you using the connection on the very end of the ribbon cable at the same time?

Does any other drive work on the master position of the same ribbon cable?
