Question [Answered] Synchronizing my hard drives

I use an external HD to both back up my music/photos etc and to move music from work to home.
Is there a nice, simple (and free) piece of software which will, when I connect my HD to my home PC, somehow synchronise the relevent music and photo folders to back them up. This would need to work both ways, i.e. photos from my home PC onto the HD, and music from the HD onto my home PC.

I've seen plenty of back up software packages but they seem to just back up everything from your PC onto a Hard Drive.

Any ideas?

Cheers all.

Hey there Professor,

I don't beleive that I've had the pleasure. My welcome to PCHF as well.

Here is a free synchronization program that seems to fit your requirements, Alway Sync. Check it out, and if you need more suggestions, just let us know.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Does the job fine but seems to crash my PC if it has a load of files to transfer .
My initial 'synching' needed about 1000 files (not sure in terms of gigs, all MP3s and jpegs) to be transferred. It got to about 50% and crashed. I restarted and ran it again (this time there were about 500 files obviously) and again it crashed at about 50%.
The third time it made it all the way and it seems to have worked.
It should only be a few files at a time from now on so should be sufficient without constant restarting.
Just a warning to everyone else. It's nice and simple to use though. I haven't tried the help/troubleshooting yet to see if there is a simple solution, I will when I get chance.

just to toss my nickels worth in, I use SyncToys from MS. Works fine for me, hasn't crashed anything, but I've also not tranferred the amount of files you are.

SyncToy: a free powertoy download for file synchronization
