OK, thanks for following along w/ me so far.

Your IDE Hard drive has windows Installed on it. That is the hard drive that is going to be the main boot device every time you start your computer. I had this same problem when I upgraded myself so I know it can get a little frustrating. As I see it your best option is to Install Windows onto your SATA hdd and then you can play around with the adapter and your old HDD. If you can get it to work dependebly I should probably be fine to use it for media storage or game files. But if you have a hard time getting the adapter to work just buy a PCI IDE controller.

That way you will have your on board IDE controlling you optical drives. Window booting of a sleek SATA drive and your old IDE hdd can be used for storing whatever you fell like putting on there (games, whatever)

Thanks again for your help.
I too would rather put the SATA as the main drive
If I install windows to the SATA drive I won't need the IDE HDD much anymore. My big problem is then preserving a virus program I got from my last employment (They gave it to me but took back the disk after the install) also
I do not want to play around with the contents on the IDE HDD since this is a dual boot system and for the sake of preserving the virus software.
will #3 in my last thread work?

That I can't really tell you. I may be wrong on this one, but I foresee trouble with the adapter. Mine wouldn't recognize the drive when I booted up half the time (make that 75%) I was a constant struggle with my *generic* adapter. The instructions they gave me had very little to go on and had nothing at all for help on their website. You can try to use it like you have in #3, and it might work fine, but I put very little faith in those adapters nowadays.

I wish you good luck. And I would like to know if it works whenever you get the part in.

yes, that configuration should boot up fine and be suitable for gaming, just have to put it a card for your CD drives because unless you have a cable long enough to go from the controller to the hard drive and then to CD. That's where you start to run into problems with that route.

I put trust in what you are telling me about the adaptors Understood.
Now lets throw out the adaptors and not use them OK?
Now
1. I Buy the IDE controller PCI card and connect the DVD and CD drives to it. Understood
2. Connect both my old IDE HDDs to the IDE connector (ONE) on the mother board. Understood
Now

3. If I buy a SATA HDD and connect that to SATA connector on the motherboard, and use that HDD for gaming only, will this work?

await your response
