Default trying to reformat harddrive

comp is compaq and will not boot. i just get a window that says we apoligize for the inconv. bla bla and gives diff options to restart. Nothing work i am now in dos and would like to know if any one can help!! thanks so much in advance.

I have Operating System CD Microsoft Windows XP Home SP2. now Windows ME origanally came on thas comp. Also the other thing the screen comes up with if i ask it to start from last known good config is it will start booting and stop at this:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDWS\system3 2\DRIVERS\amdagp.sys

So currently your using Xp?. This problem seems to be I'm not certain though AGP Graphics cards.


I've read that someone actually solved there problem by

removing the agp card and put a PCI video card in the computer. The computer should boot fine. delete amdagp.sys, turn off the computer, put the agp video card back in, and turn the computer back on.



If you've not got another graphics card to try it with then we'll have to find another solution ,
