Question [Answered/Resolved] Transferring System Files, will it work?

Today I purchased a new 10 gig HD (still small, I know) to replace my laptop's 4 gig HD and I would like to still use Windows ME, the only thing is that I don't have a copy of ME and I don't want to buy one. I was wondering if I transferred all the contents off the 4 gig HD to the 10 gig HD without modifying the structure of them at all, would it boot to ME as it did before?

Hey Zachary,

My welcome to PCHF.

Sorry my friend, but unfortunately no, that will not work. Microsoft has spent many countless hours and dollars making darned sure it wouldn't.

As an ex-ME user myself, I am curious as to why you would want to stay with ME. XP is so much more stable and secure. Plus you can buy it anywhere for $100, and if you keep an eye out, you can get it for less than that. (I just did a quick Google search and came up with three for $81).

Depending on whether you intend to keep the laptop for some time, it would be worth your while to upgrade.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

I want to stay with ME simply because my laptop is outdated, it has 96mb ram & a 266mhz processor & I'm sure that XP wouldn't run that well on it, I don't want to use 98se because I'd havre to install drivers for almost everything manually so it makes sense to stick with ME. Besides I don't do much with my laptop, word processing, mp3s, internet on the go, and backing up my digital camera pics. Anyway, I guess I'll have to purchase ME, oh well....
