I set it to the app's quickest option (quick wipe, it was on military hdd-cleaning for some reason), and it's down to 14.5 days. What I'm worried about is that it may just be wiping what's empty, and when it gets to the part that's written, the lock will prevent it from continuing. What's worse, that may be days away.

Just so I'm not stupid, I calculated the estimated remaining time by taking an hour and a half, and measuring what it was at after that was done (0.43%), then did this equation:

([100/0.43]*1.5)/24

Which should have determined the number of days, if I'm not being a total moron. It comes out to 14.534883720930232558139534883721, or basically just two weeks.

Rodents,

If the wipe took an hour and a half to do 43%, then in another hour and a half you should be at 86%, so at the outside you are looking at another three hours.

If the wipe is at 4.3% after an hour and a half, I would try a different application.

However, if it is taking 1.5 hours to do 4.3%, round it up to 5%, that would be about 36 hours to complete the scan. 10% at 3 hours, 100% 30 hours. I think you over thought the math on this one.

Let us know what you decide to do.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

LGW

I said 0.43%, not 43% or 4.3%...

0.43%

That's... low. I'll try a different app if it hasn't picked up speed overnight. The times were not continuous, to say the least. Though most of it was slowing down.

It was at 6.25% as of 4:30. I'm running it at my mom's house where nobody will annoy me about leaving the computer on.

^^ That's probably untrue since it's a very old computer. That's most likely why it's so gosh-darn slow too. The BIOS might be shot on that poor old Dimension V400, because it apparently can't boot from CDs that I've tested in other computers (wait, that can't be right... it boots from Windows disks and the hard drive's setup disk... oh well). I put DBAN on a floppy (I finally got a 10-pack! Whoo! I hope they don't konk out on me...) and it's running about 75% the speed it did on the other compy.
