Also shouldn't the XP installation cd also be used as boot cd or recovery/backup cd?

To create an MS-DOS startup disk
The MS-DOS startup disk you create will allow you to boot into MS-DOS.
Insert a floppy disk into your computer's floppy drive.
Open My Computer, and then click the floppy disk drive to select it.
On the File menu, point to the name of the floppy drive, and then click Format.
Under Format options, click Create an MS-DOS startup disk.
Click Start.
Important
Creating an MS-DOS startup disk erases all information on the floppy disk.
Notes
To open My Computer, click Start, and then click My Computer.
The MS-DOS startup disk only allows the system to boot into an MS-DOS prompt. The disk contains no additional tools.

okay that was worthless.. they want to charge me to talk to a person who can guide me through the trouble shooting... bunch of BS...

I'm in college and need this PC running by this weekend... I don't get WHY it won't boot... it just doesn't make any sence... the last option I have left is mabye making those 6 xp floppy disks and getting a floppy drive hopefully that works?

BTW.. does anyone happen to have a file/boot disc I could burn on a cd? not the actual windows.. but just a boot file? that saves me time in buying/installing a floppy drive...

Hey Harry,

Try the instructions here, you should be able to make a bootable cd and use that.

alright everyone.. good news.. my guess was right.. it was the XP cd's... they gave me ones that "just" for some odd reason didnt work... so they gave me some different XP ones they had... I came home hoping the HD isn't fried... so I ran some recovery steps.. and luckly the 2nd recovery time.. it worked.. my PC is normal and fine.. or atleast has been for the last 30 mins...
