Default [Answered] HDD data recognition problem

My comp has two hard drives...40gb Master with XP installed....and Slave with 150gb data....decided to format master drive(moment of madness).....so transferred all needed data to slave drive.....formatted master, and re-installed XP....Comp now wont recognise data on slave drive, its treating it as a newly installed drive, and says it needs to be formatted....data is still on there, and i just need a way for comp to recognise it.
Could i format and recover files afterwards. If so, whats would be best software to use???? (have File Scavenger and Paragon Hard Disk Manager 6.0 Professional)

Hi crockski,

Welcome to PCHF.

The best software I've used is: Buy and Download - R-Studio FAT 2.0

Depending on what file system your using, there are two seperate versions for FAT and NTFS.

Your best chances of recovery, is to attempt it before messing about with the disk. Fomatting the disk for example will decrease your chances of recovering more data.

there is also some free data recovery options.. I have used the below program a couple times

Ultimate Boot CD - Overview

burn it as an ISO and boot it up and it may even help the pc help recognize the HD.

Cheers Guys.....looked at R-Studio, but site gave no information on product, only name. Reluctant to pay $15 for something with no description, but if MadMonkey recommends.........
Will obviously try free option first though.....lol

Ok MM.....got R-Studio, but the first thing i read in the Help folder was.....NEVER TRY TO SAVE RECOVERED FILES/FOLDERS ON THE SAME LOGICAL DISK WHERE THEY RESIDE!!!
Or you may obtain unpredictable results and lose all your data.

Hmmmmmm....head scratcher

That would mean buying new HDD of larger size.......barls!!

Unless of course.....retrieve in 4.4gb chunks??......

Does anyone have a 36 hour day handy.....lmao

lol, can take time but it's worth it if your data is that important. You do need to restore to some free space somewhere, either in chunks, R-Studio does allow you to select specific folders and files.
