Default [Fixed] New Hardrive, What to do?

Ok, well my PC had a 32 GB internal Local Disk hard drive and that got filled up quite quickyl, i revently bought a 250gb external hard drive and i want to know what do i do next? I want to free up all the space and is there a basic easy to use guide that teaches you about new hard drives and what exactly should be done? Im sorry i know so little

Oh sorry, didnt realise it said External, did no instructions come with the drive as it can be different for different makes and models.

the cd that came with it should have come with a cd that contained software for that sort of thing.
