Default [Resolved] No DHCP or ProxyDHCP offers were received.

Hi,
First time poster here seeking some help with a new hard drive install on my laptop and an error message I'm receiving.

The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1000 - No longer under warranty of course. Started having problems a while back and Dell tech support diagosed a bad motherboard. It had gotten to the point where the laptop would not start up succesfully.

I sent the computer in at my cost for repair, and before doing so, they had me remove my hard drive - SOP apparently. When the laptop was returned, I reinserted the hard drive and again began having problems. The diagnostics error messages indicated the hard drive was bad.

I then purchased a new hard drive and I have installed it. I have the original Window's XP Home Edition SP1 CD that came with the computer.

From what I've read, I should be able to hit F2 during start up to go to setup and direct the computer to start from the CD - I'm not certain I'm doing that correctly. I'm arrowing down to the CD drive and then saving my changes.
Nevertheless, when I try to start up afterward, the CD is coming on and appears to be working.

Anyway, when I start up the laptop, here are the messages I get:

Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 (build 082)
Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation

SiS 900 PXE BootROM v1.09b Hook Int18

Client Mac ADDR: 00 ...... GUID: 4444.........
PXE-E51: NO DHCP or proxyDHCP offers were received.

PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
Invalide partition table_

The start up ends there and I just get a blinking cursor. What does this mean?

Hi CTW

Welcome to PC Help Forums

Well from what I've read it seems your pc is trying to boot from a network card, try disabling that in the bios then setting the cdrom as 1st boot option, make sure you Save when exiting.

Thanks - After posting my message, I googled my error and found information agreeing with what you've stated. I re-entered the setup and realized I needed to use the F5 and F6 keys to change the order of the start-up. I moved my CD drive to the top of the list and Windows is now loading. Thanks again.
