Default Hard disk instability?

I have recently heard some weird sound emanting from my slave hdd drive, sometimes when i utilise many applications concurrently running it hangs in suspended animation for a while before resuming normal. Is there any tools out there which may determine the stability of my hdd whether how long is it's working lifespan and when is it going to fail?

Hello again Lebron

What make is your hdd?
If your bios supports SMART then that will let you know when the hdd is going to fail.
