Arrow [Answered] Ext. Hard Drive - Music

I recently purchased an external hard drive from Western Digital "My Book Essential Edition". It is my understanding that I can move all of our music on to this hard drive to free up space on C: drive.

How do I accomplish this? I have no idea! Do I need to move Windows Media Player also or just the music?

Thank you in advance for your hep - I really appreciate it!!

Hello again Kate,

Once you plug the hard drive it - Windows will detect it, and all you need to do is copy the files themselves, not WMP...

You might need to recreate your playlists.

I'm sorry for being so "dumb" when it comes to stuff like this, but what exactly does "recreate playlists" mean?

How do I do this???

Thanks again - & sorry for being such a royal pain!!

Your not a royal pain Kate,

recreate playlists just means you'll ahve to open the songs up again "for the first time"
Once the files have moved, just open them as you would normally from the new location - that's it

Once you have your extra hard drive up and running, you can make a folder in it to store your music files in it,you have to go into your c drive and find your music files wherever they are and drag them into your new folder on your new drive,or you can copy them,The easiest way 4 u is probly 2 right click on your music file and send to your desktop and then open your new folder and drag it in there,or one of those options,it should work.after you are positive they are in there you can the delete the original file.Oh and you dont need to move the media player, just the music files(mp3zies)Hope this ramblings help!
