No i don't think that will be the problem.

Perhaps it's best if you boot off the gateway hard drive and reinstall the driver for the printer...as i believe that the USB ports on the gateway may be causing the spark - i'd suggest replacing that cable.

I have new cord and new printer as stated before. THe gateway hard drive does not show up in the set up screen. It only appears after window boots the system fully.

Ah, sorry i obviously miss read the post
