Default Loud Humming

I am using a new laptop and I notice that whenever i am running any program the laptop makes a loud humming sound that sounds like the hard drive is spining very fast then it stops. It does this like every 30 seconds and does not stop, even if I am only running one program. The laptop's performance seems to be fine as I can run various programs at once without slowdown. I would expect the laptop to make this sound when it is booting up, runing a CD, or starting a large program, but the fact that it does this like every 30 seconds or so seems weird. By the way I have a single 120gb hard drive and intel centrino T2500. Maybe there is something a have set in the settings that is causing this or is this normal? Thanks

Hi Justin,

I'd suggest running a chkdsk on your hard drive to make sure there's no bad sectors on it.

My Computer -> Right click on Local Disk (C -> Select Properties -> Tools -> Check Now -> Select both the check boxes, click on Start.

You will need to restart your computer to get it started...it will scan before windows boots up, let it finish.

Is this humming coming from a vibration, can you feel it in the case? Or is it a humm from the speakers?

The humming sounds like somthing inside the case is spinning really fast for a few seconds, then it stops. It does this repeatedly every 30sec or so. I figured it must be the hard drive but I could easily be wrong.

it could just be you fans on your laptop as mine stop and starts it's just a way for the computer to save batery power and there never the same intervals when they stop some can be just for a few secounds others longer depends what you are doing on with the computer.
