ok there is a glimmer of good news. i was installing my motherboard drivers and noticed "eh why has my motherboard driver cd coz sata drivers on here"

*grabs manual* "oh ffs it DOES have sata ports, **** my assumptions"

Connected both sata drives to sata ports and disposed of the card.

Great works well, with only the sata hdd's. As soon as i connect the IDE hdd also same error.

Verifying DMI pool data..................

Boot from CD:
Boot from CD:
DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

Same as before, ive triaded turnign lal boot priotiies to disables with no effect.

In the bios settings:
There is a -Bootable add-in-device: Onchip SATA RAID above the boot devices. And above there there is a hard disk priority selection. I go into that and it shows me IDE1 maxtor and Bootable Add-In-Cards, nothing else is on that hdd boot priority which i find strange.

Sorry to be a pain, never had so much trouble with a hdd. Hate not knowing all the naswers likei normally do lol.

Right in your bios there should be a place that has asks you what you want to enable e.g Sata or Pata or both.

The best thing might be for you to post the make/model (yes I love this whole make/model thing ) and post it up so I can be specific with my answers.

Basically in the boot devices you do not want any IDE drive showing up in there, there should be another device which you can select.

BTW if you have only just enable pata + sata then you will need to save changes, exit and go back into the BIOS before it picks up the drive in the boot options

Motherboard: Abit AV8

Bios: Phoenix - AwardBios CMOS Setup Ultility

-------------------------

Tried changing hard disk boot priorty to "bootable add in device" by the guide it says i can then select onboard sata which i did in the option below it.

I begin the bootup and the computer just hangs on "Varifying DMI pool data"

On a side note here is what happens when im waiting for a reply and i read other posts on this site:

Hey curver,

So for the delay, finally managed to get the manual for your board.

Two things you need to do, firstly under OnChip IDE Device make sure that "Sata Raid Rom" is enabled.

Now take a look at this screenshot:
[img=http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/5420/bootdeviceyu2.jpg]

So it sounds like you will need to set the Hard disk boot priority to OnChip SATA Raid (if that is on the menu)

Next make sure boot other device is enabled.

Under the first boot device see if you can select your Sata drive or anything relating to it.

Thanks for your help.

I made a tempory solution running the SATA through the SATA card, and got rid of the 120gb IDE and replaced it with a 250gb SATA. Thus sata only.

Worked well running only through the card and the 250gb came today. So i thought right ok time to route it through the board properly.

Connect drives to board and it gets stuck at "varifying DMI data....."

Now what you said has made me start ringing allarm bells. Now i understand the boot priotiy thing it was one of first thing i tried. But you mention about the ONChip SATA device.

Now i go onto "Intergrated Peripherals" and it says:

"ONChip IDE device"
"OnChip PCI device"

Not nothign saying on chip SAT device. Infact only place i can find a relaton to sata is in "Advanced BIOS features" under:

"Hard Disk Priority Press Enter
- Bootable Add-in Device Onchip SATA RAID"

And

"Onchip IDE device Press Enter"

I press enter:

"SATA RAID ROM ENABLED"

--------------------------------

Now what does this mean, well to me it means SATA RAID ROM is still enabled.

But why can i not select sata devices in the boot menu? Even when they show up clearly in the dos screen which loads before the "Varifying DMI Pool" Hanging screen.

Now since i know the drives work im thinking this is not a BIOS configuration problem. Expecially since the "Varifying DMI Pool..." thing normally means BIOS problems. However ive tried resetting the BIOS to "Load Optimised Defaults" with no affect still hangs on "Verifing DMI pool Data..............."

Appreciate all your help guys.

hazar! updated bios to current version and im in windows..

Well, without the 250gb drive. With it connected it made windows crash (blue screen of death when connected directly to the board and sluggish loading)

So i conected it through the controller card, and formatted it using the disk manaager in windows... All is will everythign works for now.. and i can call this a close on the topic. Thank you all for your help.

I also made a $10 donation to help support this site since its very valuble to the community here with your fast responces which are free and help alot of people. I know its not much but better than nothing.
