Default Reading externally from RAID 0... possible?

I've just had a fun hour resetting my entire house after my new Al!enware rig threw sparks out the back and fused my house!

I'm resigned to the fact the rig will need replacing, but I've a hell of a lot of work and saved games on the hard disks that i want to save before throwing the machine onto the tender mercies of the warranty guys.

I have an IDE to usb extrnal connector with an independant power supply which I have used in the past to pull data off of old PC's - the new drives are SATA but a quick convrter cable will take care of that.

The downside is that the new drives were set up as a RAID 0 array 9something i'm not at all familiar with) and so I was wondering :

a) Is it possible to read from a raid externally via usb connectors/converters etc, and if so
b) How would I do this using my old PC (running win xp)
c) i've yet to look, but if my old pc has some spare SATA connectors, could I plug the drives straight in and read them? Again would there be any special configurations needed on my old pc which has yet to even taste RAIDs?

Any help/advice greatly appreciated!

M

Hi Mr Hyms.

Unfortunatly RAID0 is not readable through external options.

RAID requires specific hardware that generally comes on the motherboard itself, most new ones come with raid capabilities, but not old ones.

Unfortunatly, if you can't power up the computer and copy the information off the RAID0 drive over a network connection...you're out of luck.

You could try data recovery programs, but you'll most likely get corrupt data from a raid, because it needs both drives plugged in and running 100% to be able to operate.
