Default Hardrive Disappeared

Hi, I'm back with anohter issue hehe. OKay, my girfriends PC recently had a bad HDD. I replaced it and got it working and everything. Actually threw in 2 drives (1 for windows, the other for games, programs, etc..) and everything has been working fine for over a month now. Last night her PC worked fine, and this morning she booted it up and the game/prgrams drive isn't there in My COmputer. When she tries to run a shortcut from that drive, it says the whole "Can't find target application" or what not. I'm going to look at it today to see if maybe a wire is knocked loose but just in case could this be the result of something else? I mean I know the HDD could be going but it literally worked for her just 7 hours before. So my question is what are the common problems with HDD's, and how to address them.

Thanks a bunch,

Dave

OKay, here's what happened. I went to her house to fix this thing, dreading the thought of having to mess with it for hours blah blah blah. So first I go to see what was wrong. I start it up and everythings fine. The hard drives are there and everythings working. Strange I thought, but then again I thought well maybe it had a stroke or soemthing. It ran fine. Perfectly fine. Then about 10 hours later after I had left,, me and her were playing World of Warcraft online for maybe about 2 hours and she calls me after being disconnected saying, it did it again. It kicked her out of the game and back to the desktop. She opens My Computer and sees her F: drive is once again unlisted. She reboots and it's back. We play again for about another 2 hours and the same thing. Her game crashed but this time she doesnt get kicked to the desktop, its a pure lock up with no response. It only started happening recently after about a month and a half this has never happened. I don't think she has virus scan which that in itself is what I'm pushing the blame towards. What should I do? Is it to late to throw a virus scan on and see if it will straighten it out or what? Idk if it's even possible for a virus to disable an HDD on its own though I could be wrong. Any bit of advice will help.

Sorry for the long story.

How is that hard drive connected? Is it a "slave" to the "master" drive on the same cable? Or is it on the secondary IDE channel/cable?

It's hooked Slave to the master I think on the same cable. It's only been doing this as of 2 days ago, and prior to this it's worked like a charm. I jst put it in about a month and a half ago.
