Default pc wont turn on when hdd plugged in

hey can someone help me
like a week ago i was on my computer when the computer suddenly freezes. i thought the computer was frozen but it was just because the hdd that the program was on disappeared. i thought it was the ide cable because its played up before, the hdd doesnt get detected sometimes. usually just needs to restart once or twice. so i went and brought a new ide cable, the 40 wire one. it still didnt work. said something about 80 conductor cable not installed. so i brought a 80 wire one. but when i plug it into that hdd the pc wouldnt turn on at all. the fan would start spinning for a second then stop, that was all. then i thought it was the power supply so i replaced that as well. still the same thing. everything works fine when i unplug that hdd though

unfortunatly, your hdd is on its way out, and there isn't alot that can be done about it.

try booting into a command prompt if you can
and type in chkdsk x:
replace x with the drive letter

what brand hdd is it?
