I'm having the same problem. I want to install and 2nd harddrive so I put it in hook it up set jumpers, everything looks good. Then the pc reads it in cmos and shows it hooked up in the slave I go to boot and it goes to windows xp screen with the bar and then it won't go any farther. I take it out and it boots. Anyone know how to help?

Hey Cannonball,

Welcome to PHCF. It is always best to start your own thread when posting a problem, if you want to let the techs know what other thread to refer to, you can copy and paste the url into your post.

I'm going to create your thread and call it Cannonball's Harddrive conflict, so you know what to look for.

I'll get into more detail once we've moved you.

OK Cannonball,

When you first installed the second harddrive, did you reinstall XP? Have you tried booting with only the second HDD in place?

Looking forward to your reply,

Bumpy Bumpy is like a bump so the post gets some attention. So no one knows why it won't boot with the slave in?

Hey Guys,

Cannonball, bumping posts will not get your post looked at any faster, or give you more attention. We have limited resources, and must make time for all of the users we help every day. Please refrain from this practice.

Actually we have barely begun troubleshooting your situation, it would be unreasonable to assume that "no one knew" what was causing the problem. Have you tried replacing the cable it is possible that it is damaged.

I would install the second HDD and reinstall XP, it has been my understanding that it is frequently necessary in order for XP to recognize and interact with the new HDD.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN
