Hey Cannonball,

NP, just letting you know.

In regard to your install, you hae a couple of options. You can do a reinstall over the top of your current install. This can sometimes lead to unpredictable behavior, and instability.

You can also do a clean install, in which case you would want to backup all of your important data, prior to wiping the HDD.

The later is more stable, and leads to less trouble down the road. It also gives you the opportunity of making sure that your important files are backed up. I would suggest doing that.

If you need instructions on either proceedure, please ask, we will be able to give you a walkthrough.

Looking forwad to your reply,

TTFN

Hi Cannonball,

Regarding your first question, a booddisk is only to get you to the primary utilities so that you can use things like FDISK to set partitions, and FORMAT, to format your drive. It is not an operating system, and does not function as one.

About your second question, do you know if the origianl CD that came with the computer was a fully functioning Operating System CD, or a Restore CD? If not, can you please post the make and model of the PC and we can probably determine which.

If your computer was sent with OS CDs, which they almost never are, you will have to get them from your friend, or come up with another set of Operating System CDs. If your PC came with a Restore CD, you can most likely order the replacments from the manufacterer.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Hey Cannonball,

So you have the restore CD?

In that case, you should definitely back up all of your files. The restore CD takes you back to factory original. It should allow you to recognize the new HDD.

Make sure you have a copy of everything you want to save, and then reboot with the restore cd in the drive.

Looking forward to your reply,
