I installed the WD software, and it also failed to find the drive. Simply had the Secondary IDE Channel as empty.

Hmm strange.. With the jumpers off it reads it but of course there is no os on it. But with them on it does not read it at all.

A couple things to try

Make sure your IDE cables are set to slave and master to the correct HD's Take out both jumpers on both HD's
Go into BIOS and make sure autodetect IDE channels is on. Load Defaults and save and exit.

Does it spin when you turn on the pc? You can touch it...it wont hurt you or the drive

Ok, just to clear some things up I checked again for myself. When There are no jumpers, or the jumpers are set to a master setting, it read all the drives normally. But of course it brings me to the message "Operating System not found on hard drive" and after a while it says "Operating System not found on and devices. Press any key to try again." So it doesn't even find it on my secondary drive. I know my cables are set right because this drive is replacing an older slave drive that worked perfectly fine. I have everything set up to use a slave and everything, just doesn't want to work for me with this drive. I'll quickly restart and see if it spins when set to slave.

Yes if it does not spin with a molex connected to it its broke. Try setting it to slave or master instead of one of your cd/roms see if it recognizes it that way. Its quirky I know but have seen it work that way.

HOORAY!!! Got it working. Turns out my primary drive jumpers were set to master and single. Which is weird because I've been using a slave drive that worked fine how everything was. But I changed it to Master w/ slave and it all works perfectly not. Just gotta initialize and create the partition now. Thanks a TON for your help!!!
