recently i purchased a usb 2.0 300gb external hard drive. i plugged it in today, and windows xp recognized it and installed a driver for it (plug and play i assume).

only problem is, i am not able to access it through windows explorer and am not able by any means to put anything on it. does anybody have any suggestions on how i would be able to use it?

i believe i have fixed it. using the handy search tool in this forum, i found out how and i went to disk management in my computer and initialized the drive and created a new partition....it is in the process of formatting now so i will let you know if it works
