Default boot disk, what should i do?

hi guys,

Need your help here.

My previous system was runing on windows XP.
i have taken out both my hard disk, master and slave out as i have just migrated to another country.

I have just bought a 2nd hand PC which OS is windows 98.
When i replaced the existing HD with mine, the PC prompt me to boot disk.

Howdy lattner,
What your gonna want to do is open the case again and take out the cmos battry. Its a round silver battery located on the otherboard.. This should clear out any old 98 mess in the box.

Are you trying to connect both hard drives at the same time?

Hey there lattner and welcome to PCHF

First we want to figure out whether this 2nd hand PC will support your old hard drive.
To do this I want you to leave the current drive setup as master in the system (the 98 drive), then connect your old hard drive (xp) change the jumper to slave and boot into windows.
Once in windows see whether you computer detects the XP drive.

Let us know whether it does or doesn't see the hard drive and then we can take the necessary steps from there.

Yes forgot about that zimbo,
Also you will probly need 2 jumpers if the drive is semi large. One jumper for 32 gig capacity and the other on the slave drive. You can take a jumper from your cd or dvd rom if it is not on the same IDE cable as your HD.
