Lightbulb [Fixed] back with new prob and cant figure it out

hey all i am back again for the seems like the millionth time i am always trying to make my pc a better pc and i like to work on them as a hobby but it is getting a lil tedious i just installed a 120gb hd in my pc and it is only letting me use 31.1gb of the hd how can i get it to be bigger it dont have to be the full 120 but i would be happy with 100+/- give or take can you please help me fix this and i am going to add a nother hd to the pc hope it can handle it because the pc was an old k-mart bluelight pc very cheap and it follows the rep of being cheap you get what you pay for lol well i hope you can help with teh hd delimma that i am having now will be back later bye for now

Hi Ozzy,

Did you get the drive new or second hand? If it's been used before, it may have a partition set up on it, so you only see 30+GB. Also, you motherboard may have a limitation as to what size you can use.

well it is a secondhand it was a refurbished and when i got it i had it operating at 120gb on diff pc but i had to install a ddo program and when i made it a slave to this pc i had to reformat and that was the only option it gave me was teh 31.1gb and i dont know what to do about it i know it can run teh 120 but i dont know if i can do it as a slave

Hi,

is there some form of partition on the harddrive? try deleting every partition found on the hdd, you can do this using the windows xp cd or another piece of software

Sounds like you might have set the jumper to an "32gb clip configuration" position.

Try it with no jumpers at all , that is generally the slave setting.

ok here is the verdict abiout the jumper i took it off and reformatted the hd and it is still the same as before and if i delete the partitions should i leave it with out any partitions ? and if i do have to put a partition on it how do i change the size of the partition and for around 100gb how would i convert that in to the bytes it asks for in the partition size ?
