Default Drives

Hi Wonderbar1uk,

Welcome to The PCHF,
I see in the thread Title that you may be using an external Hard drive, if this is the case then there might be a problem with the equipment. Are you using a USB connection from the hard drive to the PC?

If you are connecting the drive into your pc with the IDE cables, make sure that you put the spare drive on the Secondary IDE (the same as your cdroms) to avoid any conflict.
Post the make/model of the drive so we can give you more detailed info on how to set the drive up for use.

Set the external drives jumper to master , and then see if the problem is gone.

Default Manager

Ok that's better news so far, lets try to get the drive recognised now.
Right click on "My Computer" click on "Manage"
When the Computer Management window opens
Click on "Disk Management"
This should bring up a view of all drives attached to the system
At the top of the window, click on "Action" then "refresh"
This should show wheather the drive has been picked up or not and wheather it is ok (or not)
