Default Slave Drive

Hi,
I recently got a new hdd off a mate to install as a slave drive to keep all my stuff backed up on, after installing it correctly i tried to boot my PC but i got a error sreen after the BIOS Splash saying
"Insert BOOT Diskette In A:"
Why do i need to insert a boot disk? shouldnt it just start up as normal? Ive set all the jumpers correctly and wired it fine, why is it asking me to insert boot diskette?
When i disconect the slave hdd and atempt to boot it all starts fine, after booting it as normal i then connected the ribbon wire to the slave and my PC found it and i was able to use it fine, so i just persumed it was just messign about, later on that day i turned off my PC, the next time i came to boot it i got the "insert BOOT Diskette In A:" again, why does it not boot when its pluged in but will work fine if its pluged in after boot?
I cheacked my BIOS and both drives were dected as they were meant to be.
any ideas?

Cheers, Insamouonyx

Welcome to PCHF,

Seems strange yes. If you are absolutely sure that all of the "physical" connections are properly complete, go into the bios and re-set the bios to Default settings, save and re-boot. What happens now?
