I seem to have got it working by accidently setting the jumpers on the HDD to limit to 32Gb when I was trying to set it to master. In C properties it says that it is still 80Gb though so not sure what happens there.
Also when it is set to limit to 32gb it is on primary slave, and it doesn't work if anything else is on the same IDE cable, and the CD and DVD drives don't work if they are are on the same IDE cable either, so i can only have the HDD and either the CD or DVD dvrive working at any one time.
But at the moment its back to full speed.
