Default Can't get to partition

I have a dual boot harddrive. Partition 1 is winxp. Partition 2 is win98. 3rd party dual boot software on the win98 partition. The first partition was created too small for XP and ran out of space. While trying to copy the XP to a new hard drive, The dual boot software was overwritten, and now I can't get to the Win98 partition. The system sees the partition, but says it's 'unknown', and won't let me open it. Is there some software that will recognize the partition? Or some way I can fix it so win98 boots? Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the dual boot software that was on the win98 partition. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jerry M.

Hey there gtoguy4 and welcome to PCHF,

Sorry for the late response to this, must have fallen through the cracks.:icon_scra

Firstly to solve the problem you would need an OS loaded so that you can view the second partition.
The best choice would be to format and install Windows98 onto the first partition.

If you do not have any information that you need to keep on this machine then I would recommend repartitioning and starting from scratch, you can setup a dual boot system without the need of any 3rd party software, Windows has a system in place that works great.

If you want to go down that road then take a look at this information:For the first link, on the right hand side you will see - Installing Windows XP with MS-DOS, Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition
