Default hard drive, killing machine

ok, originally I got a western digital WD800BB and it worked perfectly. then, I got a new case, and when I tried to put my WD800BB in there, it didn't work, never even spun up. so I figured it was just its time to die, so I sent it in to get a warrenty replacement, so in the mean time, wile waiting to get my replacement, I got a Hitachi HD1722516DLAT80, and that worked fine. I put in the new replacement WD800BB into my computer, and that didn't work either, in fact, smoke came out after a few seconds of being pluged in. so, I figured this may be defective, so, I sent that WD800BB in for a warrenty replacement as well. I got a new one, and that didn't work either, so, I figured it may be the power cable i'm hooking it up to, so I got another warrenty replacement, I changed the power cable, and it didn't work. now I got another warrenty replacement, and this time, I first plugged it into my playstation 2, and I have a hard drive driver disc for my playstation 2, so I put in the disc, and the hard drive worked, I was even able to put data such as games on it. but, I wanted to use it in my computer, so, sence I knew this one worked in my playstation, I put it in my computer, and it didn't work, then I put it back in my playstation and it didn't work now. ok during all this my HD1722516DLAT80 still worked fine in my computer, and currently works in my computer

guys, I am compleatly at a loss, I don't know what to do anymore, please help me.

I already replaced the ide ribbon, and it is still killing the hard drives, as far as the PSU, is there a reson why I would have a hard drive in there that works perfectly? I mean, is there a known compatability issue someware with western digital hard drives?

I never heard of any compatability issue like this , all i can think of is that the powerplug is plugged in the wrong way around.. but that should be (almost) impossible.

I did hear of an OEM issue where an OEM floppiedrive was used in an "normal" pc and that killed the mobo because it was wirred different then normal. I think it was a Sony.

What kind of pc do you have? Dont think its relevant though , since you get warrenty replacements. So it should be correct hardware.

I have a Hewlet packerd a300n, well, its the same stuff, only I switched out of original case, and this hard drive didn't come with the PC, I don't have the original hard drive anymore actualy, and one of my budds told me it might be the secondary hard drive controller on the mother board, is that possible? like if the controller is damaged, would it kill a hard drive?

P.S. I am certain the power plug is in the right way :-P

yea, i know its strange, lol, there are so many things it could be, but what really gets me is I have a hard drive in there, and it works perfectly. the one that works is a 164gb but the one that keeps deing is a 80gb. I dunno, i'm at a loss, I have no clue what to do anymore, cept maby sell the 80gb and buy a different brand.
