Checkout this link below, does it look like the jumper settings on your Samsung drive?
http://www.samsung.com/Products/Hard...rsguide_02.htm

If so I recommend setting it to the 32 bit setting (Master with limit capacity in upper 32GB (capacity ≥ 32 GB)

Could you confirm what type of cable connects to the new hard drive, A or B?

This is the only thing close to what you described about sata and pata that i could find in my bios, it says its something to do with periperals. The bracketted ones are the other choices i can have for each setting:

Serial Port A: Enabled
Base I/O address 3F8 (2F8 3F8 2E8 )
Interrupt IRQ4 (IRQ3)

Parallel Port: Enabled
Mode ECP (EPP)
Base I/O address 378 (278 3BC)
Interrupt IRQ7 (IRQ5)
DMA channel DMA3 (DMA1)

I do have one connection on my motherboard that i can see that looks like picture A, but it goes to some usb ports at the front of my computer, however i think these have never worked since i bought the computer.
