Default Can't format HDD, disk damaged - please help!

Hi Guys

I am currently havining a problem with my hard drive. I have two hard drives, primary 240 GB and secondary 19 GB. The primary disk seems to be damaged as I cannot format the disk and in the chkdsk command from windows xp CD recovery console I get a message saying "the disk has one or more unrecoverable problems". The disk though works just, that it is so slow, and it takes ages to open a program or do anything. I have tried formating the disk from the XP cd but it won't format. Can anyone please give me an idea of how can I recover my hard disk, if it is possible to recover it.
Thanks, Gully

Thank you for replying.
Yeah I can get in Windows, it is just that when I actually start it, it is extremely slow. I also cannot format it, only quick format works. Otherwise the hard disk gets detected in the start up screen and also bios. I can also see the hard disk from the other hard disk (secondary one), and also from the partition magic software which I got installed in the secondary hard disk.
I don't really know the name of my hard disk, but I will try to get the model number. If you have any suggestion please tell me what to do.
Thanks so much.

Here are some tools for you to use to determine the problem - they are specific and relevant to your Western Digital hard drive;
