Default SATA question

Hello Everyone,

Can someone please help me with this.

I have

http://shop1.outpost.com/product/38...CH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

for my desktop pc

and have this

http://shop1.outpost.com/product/38...CH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

for my laptop.

When I plug the sata drive into either one with the small red cable that is included the drive doesn't power up. The drive is a good drive and powers up other places, and I know that there are 2 spots for cables on the actual drive but only one place in either card to put a cable. Is there something I am missing? How are you supposed to power up the sata drive when there is only 1 slot for a cable in the card?

Thank you for your help.

You need a SATA power adapter cable like this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...tem=12-104-652
...for your PC. It connects to any free 4-pin power cable hanging from your power supply. The "L" on it is like the red data cable you have, but is slightly longer. You can probably pick it up @ Fry's/Outpost but it will probably be a much quicker trip to run down to Compusa if you have on near you.

and

You may need an external power supply if for some reason you were planning to encase your SATA drive in an enclosure you could use it as an external drive to interface w/ the PCMCIA card on your laptop. Normally the enclosure kits come with a power supply though...I thought.

hmm as i ll always say prefer a local computer store. They will want your business and wont charge you like a victim as the giant stores would for little stuff.
