Default [Fixed] - New SATA Drive and controller...

Hey guys. . .

I am upgrading my cousin's computer and decided to get him a SATA drive, looks like I may have been better off just getting an Ultra ATA drive, but too late. Anyway, I bought him a WD800JDRTL (Western Digital 80GB SATA 8MB Cache) and a Belkin SATA PCI Card.

I am trying to install winxp on this drive. . .

I hit F6, load the drivers, Silicon Image Sil 3x12 SATARaid Conrtroller for Windows XP/Server 2003, and then I get an error:
Setup cannot copy the file: Si3112r.inf

I keep hitting enter to retry and I keep getting the same error msg.

This isn't making any sense to me.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the disk/file is corrupt, the best thing you can do is download the drivers from the internet and copy them to a new blank diskette.

Then follow the steps as you have been doing and see whether it loads the driver.

Would you be able to post the exact make/model of your mobo for us.

its a dell dimension 4500 if that helps, i won't be able to open it up and post the exact mobo until around 8 or 9am EST though :undecided

and as for the floppy, my cousin's new machine doesn't have one, i had a feeling i would regret ordering it without one

however, i might be able to find an old drive somewhere that would work

Don't worry about posting the make/model of your mobo, the Dimension 4500 explains it all.

Could you post the model or part number of your Belkin Sata PCI card.

it's already in the computer, and I am way too tired to pull it apart again atm. i am falling asleep sitting here, heh. there is no specific indication of a model number on the packaging, however, if i were to venture a guess which one it was from the numerous numbers on it, i would say: F5U198

Thanks that number is perfect, I will try locate the drivers for you.

In the meantime you should have received a CD with the card, try to copy the XP drivers off onto a floppy disk and see whether you can use that to install the card during the XP setup.

Once I have found the driver disk I will post a link for you.
