Hello and welcome to PCHF richardmckevitt.

Do you get the error when you try to download messenger or when you try to install it?

You can try and download it from this link:
http://yahoo-instantmessenger.com

Can you post the exact error message that you receive.

Unhappy Help

I download it from Yahoo and it opens with the file download box, I click on save and save it to my PC . I then go to that location and double click on the Icon (smiley face) called msgr7uk. It then does nothing or comes up with the following error.

"Could not load the DLL Library. The specified module could not be found"

I tried to clean my PC the other evening as it was running slow and I must have deleted something I should not have as I have never seen theis before when I have downloaded anything from Yahoo.

Would you be able to clear out your TEMP directory as well as delete anything relating to Yahoo from your C:\PROGRAM FILES directory.

Once you have deleted your temp files restart your machine.

Then could you download and install version 6 from this site:
http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=yahoo

After 6 is installed can you try load 7 over the top, without removing 6.

If that fails could you follow the instructions in my signature - "Prework" and post the logs for you Hijackthis and Ewido.

I found this email from yahoo about this problem.
Looks like it is indeed enough to delete the old messenger folder and then reinstalling but don't forget to backup youre profiles or they'll be lost.

"Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Messenger.

You may have a corrupt file in your Messenger directory. To fix the
problem, you must manually delete the "Messenger" directory on your C:
drive (default), then reinstall the Messenger program.

1. Close the Messenger program if you currently have it running, also
please make sure all instances of Internet Explorer are closed.
2. Go to your desktop and double-click on "My Computer."
3. Click on "C:" drive.
4. Go to:
- "C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\"
5. Highlight the Messenger folder and press the "Delete" key on your
keyboard. (All archives will be deleted if they are not copied. Please
see below.)

The next step is to install:

1. Close all running programs except for your Internet browser.
2. Please visit the Messenger home page:
3. Click the "Get it now" button.

To copy your complete Message Archive:

1. Close Messenger (if it is currently running).
2. Go to your Desktop and double-click "My Computer."
3. Select the C: drive.
4. Go to:
- "C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Profiles"
5. Your "Profiles" folder contains your complete Message Archive. Copy
it to the same location on another machine if you wish to view it
elsewhere. Please Note: If you copy this folder to another machine, your complete
Message Archive will be copied, overriding the Message Archive on the
machine to which you are copying.
