Default SATA Hard drive problem

Hi Guys

I tried to defrag my Maxtor SATA hard drive (storage not OS). Half way through there was an error and defrag stopped. I got a few error messages saying that certain files could not be saved.

I re-booted the machine and this is where it all went wrong. If I go into the bios during boot the motherboard (ASUS A8V) says it cannot see the drive (not detected). Once Windows boots (XP Pro) I can see the drive in My Computer but if I try to click on it (left or right) it just times out.

Please help as I dont want to loose the data on this drive.
