I am having a problem with my secondary drive. A couple of months back I fitted a new cpu and mobo and got a new hard drive. I then fitted my old one as the secondary as it has all my files from before which i wanted to copy over. The most precious of which are my recording files which Ive created using tracktion music production software. Now when I try to copy these files onto the new drive it doesn't work. Each song has it's own folder consisting of a tracktion edit file and many audio clips. It copies much of the folder over but then says it can't read a particular audio file and aborts. It does this with every song. One song worked but then when i opened it using the software, the edit was there but it was full of empty clips. These folders refuse to burn to cd also.
I tried creating an image of my secondary drive using r-drive image. It took several hours to get to 100% then told me it couldn't create an image of this drive. Then yesterday I ran the error checking tool on this drive. It took all night then again, got to 100% and told me it couldn't complete this task. It's like there's something wrong with this drive but I certainly wasn't having any problems with it when it was my only primary drive. It was definately from the moment I fitted it as the secondary drive.
This has got me puzzled and worried for my songs. Any one have any ideas?

You could try it the other way round

What you could try and do is set your current secondary drive to master and then the new drive to slave. Then boot up the computer and go straight into safemode.

See whether you can access the files from there, if you can simply copy them over to the new(slave) drive.

Can you still play them from the old drive without copying them?
Also did you set the jumpers of the drive to slave or cableselect? And the new to master?

And what happends if you copy them from one place on the old hd to a new place on the old hd? (preferebly a different partition if it has it)

No the same thing happens when I try and open them off the old drive (the project opens but with empty clips). I set the jumpers of the old drive to cable select and the new one to master. The weird thing is, since I wrote this message I've just tried to copy 3 songs over to the new drive and they have all just copied ok! This certainly wasn't the case before when I tried it (about a hundred times and they wouldn't copy!!!).
Still can't get them to open properly though. The clips are in tact because I've played several of them in itunes, they just appear empty ('file missing') in my project.

Ok. I think what I may need to do is swap the drives, like Zimbo said, so that the disk with all the files on is the master and my current master becomes the slave. Is it ok to just switch it off and do this or would that screw up my system?

Aslong as you turn of youre pc , remove the power cord and reconnect the cables and jumpers correctly , it shouldn't screw anything up.
