Default [Answered] cant reformat hard drive

hi. im new to computers but im finding that something always goes wrong. when i push F10 when the pc first starts (i want to go into system recovery to reformat the hard drive to its original settings) it will go to next screen which says "starting hp pc system recovery". then it will get to the next screen, which on mine has the HP symbol large with a blue loading bar that moves across the screen (similar to the green bar that moves across when XP is starting up). at this point the computer will go into stand by mode. at this point i have no choice but to hold in the power button to turn off the pc and then push it again to restart it. please help. this is a nightmare.

If you have an XP disc you can put that in and do a recovery that way. Just make sure your CD Rom is set to boot first in the BIOS.

Everyone,

Unfortunately my extensive work with HP has not seen this issue before. It's possible that the CD was incorrect for this model. It's possible that the CD was incorrect period. Unfortuantely without further information regarding this topic it's a bit hard to judge what the exact fix would be.

I would suggest that pcnewman were to contact HP directly in any case, as they have detailed instructions for each circumstance.

marked as Answered - but if you have this problem, please start a new thread so we can help you out more specifically.
