Default [Pending] Whats taking up so much space on my new hard drive?

I bought a new hard drive a few days ago and i installed it not long ago. When i turned my computer on the hard drive had 59.7 gig used space. Whats up with that? Its not the only hard drive in my computer, i have another 40 gig HD that is the master drive (The one windows Xp boots from), the one that has the 59.7 gig used space is the new Western Digital 200 gig one. I did install XP onto the new hard drive, but no way Xp takes 59.7 gigs of space... Theres 3 folders on my new 200 gig hd and they are: WINDOWS (876 mb) Program Files (55.9 mb) and Documents and Settings (16.8 mb) so as you can see this doesnt nearly add up to 59.7 gig. whats taking up the space on my new HD?

Thanks for your time.

Too be honest it just sounds like a corrupted hard drive. I had the same problem on a 40GB drive not so long ago.
When I went to the properties of the hard drive it said that there was 500Mb free, so in other words I was using close to 40GB.

I then went into windows explorer, highlighted all the directories and went to the properties. The total space being used was only 10GB, so somewhere along the line 30GB was being lost.

The only solution I could find was to format the hard drive and reload it.

I'm using a Dutch version of Windows XP so I'm not sure if the titles I tell you are correct.
Go to Control Panel, then click Prestations and maintenance, then click Systemmanagement, then click Computercontrol (my translations), and you can see in the leftframe some kind of: disk management. Check if Windows has partitioned the whole disk or has just made a 140GB partition or some kind of thing. If Windows has, there is a non-partitioned space. You can adjust the size of your primair partition by using PartitionMagic, or you can make a new partition clicking right on your disk en click new partition. Good luck!

How did you get on with the HDD? Did you have to reformat and start again?

Im not sure if this is still a problem, but i have heard that somtimes hardrives over 120gb or 160gb will not allways show as the actual drive size. Just a thought. ill try to do some reasearch for you and see what i can dig up
