Do you have another machine were you could test that hard drive on

done that...the drive is dead on another comp too...thats why I guess the problem is the drive itself... :-(

I'm afraid it sounds like the drive could be dead, and doesnt really sound like there is going to be any way of getting the data back off the drive.
one thing you could try and do is download the disk management software for that drive.

I have used a Western Digital disk management software before, its normally contains a low level format facility which won't help retreive data but might help save the drive.

Could you send me the model of you hard drive, there should be a model number on the top.

the model is...WD800JB-00CRA1 (80gb)....
I don't know to erase all the data or keep it that way.... :|
isn't there anyway I could get the data back? :wink:
