Default [Fixed] - Hard Drive Problem - NTLDR Missing

I shall try to explain.

I got a new Hard drive which has been formatted. I hoped that i could copy everything from the old Hard drive to the new one.

The old one works fine but i wanted more space.

When using the new hard drive which has been formatted I get the missing NTLDR message.

I havent installed XP onto the new drive because the error message doens't let me get that far.

The PC is Intel P4, 2.6Mhz, 256 Ram, CD Drive & DVD RW drive & floppy drive.

The old HD is 30GB the new one is 120GB.

Hope that explains things.

Nice explanation  The new drive is basically saying - NTLDR missing - Hold on a moment, I don't have an operating system here....

Ok, if you are trying to use a brand new disk then you need to prepare it first (this advice assumes that either you have no data on the disk OR are prepared to lose any existing data on the drive).

Assuming you are using Windows XP - put your XP install disk into the CD drive and boot "from the CD rom" - when you get into the install proceedure, you will have the option to partition and format the new drive prior to installing windows. Note: Format the new drive with the same file format as the old one (FAT32, NTFS etc). This will lessen the problems you may face when moving files from the old drive to the new one.

When you have finished this proceedure, you will be able to install your operating system to the drive or use it as a "Slave" drive (secondary) to the main hard drive.

What you will probably be better off doing will be to follow the guide above, then install your operating system then make your old hard drive the "slave" to your new drive. That way you can boot into Windows and copy the old data across.

Hi,

I have gone into set and changed the boot priority and it is booting from the Cd drive, it is currently installing Windows XP Pro from the disk.

I am going to leave hte old HD in as a Slave. The problem I had when I first tried this was that there was no sound when using the new HD.

I assume that I need a driver for the soundcard but I can't find it. The old HD works fine soundwise, how can I get the info to the new HD when I havent got a clue which file(s) I am looking for.

My only other idea is to get a new sound card which will come with a Driver.

Is there an easier way to get sound when using the new HD?

Cheers

No problem.

Post the full details of your motherboard and soundcard here. We will find the right driver for you

Not sure what motherboard it is or how to find out.

Also not sure what the soundcard is.

All I can see on the soundcard is SD-8738SX-4C

Do you know what the file name would be on the old hard drive, and where to find it.?

Cheers

Thanks.
Do as JDawg suggested after you have completed the XP install. See what the XP installation picks up your soundcard as.
