How to run the VAIO Hardware Diagnostics using VAIO Care or F10

    In this Tutorial, I will explain how to run diagnostics by using the VAIO Care™ software stored in your operating system or if you can not get your computer to boot into your operating system and how to run diagnostics by using the F10 key or recovery disks.

    How to use the VAIO Hardware Diagnostics utility to diagnose hardware issues using the VAIO Care™ software.

    The VAIO Hardware Diagnostics utility can be used to perform various tests to ensure the computer is working properly and diagnose hardware issues when they occur. The utility allows you to perform tests on the following components: processor (CPU), memory (RAM), video adapter, hard disk drive (HDD), optical drive (CD / DVD), network adapter (LAN), USB, and Sony Memory Stick® controller. Follow the procedure below to use the utility.

    • Close all open programs.
    • Click the Start button and then click All Programs .
    • In the All Programs menu, click the VAIO Care folder and then click VAIO Care.
    • In the VAIO Care window, in the left pane, click Troubleshooting.
    • In the Troubleshooting window, under Diagnostics , click Hardware.

    • In the Hardware window, click the appropriate button depending on the hardware test you would like to perform.

    • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the test.
    NOTE:
    Tests can be run on the following components: CPU, Hard Drive, CD Drive, Sony MS Controller, LAN, Memory, Video, DVD Drive, USB.

    How to run the VAIO Hardware Diagnostics after booting the computer with the F10 key.

    NOTE:
    This can only be used if the hard drive has not been replaced or the diagnostic partition has not beed wiped by formatting.

    The VAIO Hardware Diagnostics utility can be used to perform tests on the processor (CPU) and hard disk drive (HDD) to ensure the computer is working properly and diagnose hardware issues when they occur. Follow this procedure to perform a Quick Test or Individual tests using this utility when the operating system will not start.
    • Turn off the computer.
    • Turn on the computer.
    • When the VAIO screen is displayed, press the F10 key.
    NOTES:
    If an Edit Boot Options screen appears, press the Enter key.

    If a Windows Boot Manager screen appears, select VAIO Recovery Environment and then press the Enter key.
    • In the VAIO Recovery Center window, under Choose a program , click VAIO Hardware Diagnostics
    • In the VAIO Hardware Diagnostics window, click the Start button.
    • On the Quick Test tab, click the Run Test button.
    NOTES:
    The Quick Test option will test the CPU and HDD.
    To perform only a test on the HDD, click the Individual Test tab and then click the Run Test button.

    • To verify and repair the HDD, click the Tools tab and then click the Open button.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the test.
    • Click the Quit button.
