ok so i have a dell xps 400. intel pentum duel core 3.4g.... 2gig corsair ram . an ati radeon x1950pro 256 graphics card . my graphics card is tacking a **** and i was woundering about getting a new one but my current card is pci-e ddr3 so will a ddr 4 or 5 card work

Hi and welcome to PCHF
If you haven't changed the original PSU then this is going to be your 1st hurdle. I believe that the XPS400 was shipped with a 375w PSU? As it is now you'll be able to run older cards such as the ATI HD3850 and the Nvidia 8800GT - both great cards BUT if you want to move up to the more recent beasts then you'll need to upgrade your PSU first.

The memory type that a graphics card has doesn't matter, it will run on your system providing you have fulfilled other requirements like the appropriate expansion slot, and like what was said above, the power supply.
It looks like your motherboard does have one PCI-E x16 slot, so it will support the latest interface of cards. If you posted a budget, it would help determine what a good upgrade would be. |
