So I bought my computer 4 or 5 years ago, and the company [compusmart] installed everything! So, last summer, when I decided to update my video card I thought, no prob.
Boy was I wrong.
I had the nVIDIA MX4000, and I upgraded it to the nVIDIA FX5200, I did everything right, unistalled my old video card, disabled my onboard, and installed my new video card. When I started playing my games, I got a weird thing happening. It would work fine for the first 15 minutes or so, then it would freeze, the music would continue, then the music trills [all of this is happening and the screen is frozen] and then the music would continue normally, and then the screen goes back to normal. This would take some 30 seconds or so, and after the first one, it will repeat every other minute or 2 minutes.
I then went to check my videocard out in one of the many system menu windows has and I got this weird thing:
VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP
RAM 256Mb
Mode 1024 x 768 x 4294967296 colors
Driver nv4_disp.dll
Date 07/12/2004
Version 6.14.10.0194-16.94.42.03
Video Manufacturer NVIDIA
Video Card NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500
RAM 8Mb
Date 16/05/2008
Version 6.14.11.7519
Hard Disk Model ST3160021A
As you can see, my nvidia is now my onboard and my onbard is my actual video card
So I tried everything:
Thanks

So I tried everything:
- Re-installing everything
- Talking with HP customer service
- Disabling video & sound acceleration
- No BIOS option was found to disable my onboard
- Updating everything
- Check to see that the specs for my new nVIDIA card were ok
- And much more
Thanks
