Graphic drivers cant install?

Hey guys, please help!

I have a really annoying problem. Some time ago my screen went completely crazy with strange stripes and various colours and suddenly rebooted the system. When it then tried to log onto windows, the screen went black and a box came floating reading "Invalid input...." something, I couldnt log on to windows, it shut off right before every time. I freaked out and reinstalled my XP, deleted everything cause I thought it might be a virus or a bad crash somewhere. When the installation was complete, I noticed my first bootscreen was filled with white dots, and the screen with the windows logo was covered with blue stripes. I logged onto my account and tried to install all my drivers. Everything went fine apart from the graphic drivers. When I tried to install the newest version, the screen filled with black stripes during the installation, and when it restarted to take effect, it crashed again! "Invalid input..." So now I cant install any drivers, I dont know what to do. Im currently running in basic VGA mode and its really annoying. Is it a graphic card problem or something else? I have a Nvdia Geforce 8800 Ultra, its only 2 years old, it would cost me a lot to change it so I thought I could ask around first

Welcome to PC Help Forum

From what you describe, I would draw 2 possible conclusions.

1) Your graphics card is overheating. Check your temps with Speedfan: Download SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer

2) Your graphics card has developed a fault - let's see what your temps are first....

Well...
Im not sure whats happening now. It seems like the computer has completely lost touch with the graphic card. I downloaded the speedfan software, but It doesnt work. Every time I run it, it crashes at the end of detection. It says the detection is ready but all I see are questionmarks in all slots. Its really wierd. I have though another software, abit Uguru which displays temperatures. It says everything is fine, the CPU temp is 39 C and all the fans are either 30 or 40 C, which is OK, but there is no info on the graphic card fan. The card and all its functions are really shut down

Is it serious? Do I have to change my card?

Sounds like you had your desktop resolution set quite high. eg out of range of the monitor. The onscreen message should have been something like:

Frequency Out of Range

To fix it just restart the PC

Press F5 repeatedly

Select Enable VGA Mode

Then set the resolution to something like 800x600 or 102x768

(Right Click Desktop > Properties > Settings Tab)

Actually I am running i VGA mode cause I cant run normally, and my resolution is 1024x768, I cant really go more or less. My normal resolution would be 1280x1024 which I never changed so that shouldn't be a problem. I did though try what you said, and tried to install the graphics drivers after, but its still the same problem, the screen goes black and nothing happens so I reverted everything in safe mode. I've been living like this for 3 weeks now.

Are you sure you are installing the right graphics card drivers for your card?

What happens if you do a driver rollback or if you uninstall the current drivers?
