Default TV Tuner Help Needed
Hello,
I have a Hauppauge Win Tv 88x Tuner ( tv pci tv tuner). I am on XP PRO with a 4 Yr old HP M1080n Media Center without the media center OS. Can I just run my basic cable into the Tuner card or do I need a cable box. What is the filter?
I get an error message when I try to open up my Win TV200 : Error can not locate TV Tuner filter ( Hauppauge Win Tv 88x Tuner) Error Can not build Filter Graph and then WinTV initialization Error . hTV=0. I see the
Hauppuage WinTV 88x (unused function)
Hauppuage WinTV 88x Crossbar
Hauppuage WinTV 88x Tuner
Hauppuage WinTV 88x Video (+IR)
All under Sound, video and game controllers in my device manager. I think I have the latest Win TV drivers and Win Tv applications installed. What ia the filter? Can you help me wih my Hauppuage WinTv 88x Video (+IR) I am trying Sage Tv trial software too. i just want any program that will run my pci tv tuner.

Hello and welcome to PC Help Forum.

You cannot connect your tv cable box to your TV Tuner card without the right equipment.

The TV tuner card connects to your TV set if compatable.

I recived your email.However as this is a USA setup and not UK its is a little confusing.

Your email seems to refer to connecting normal cable from wall as in coaxal straight to your computer TV tuner card.

If you could fully explain what you are trying to do then I may further understand.

Or are you trying to connect cable TV directly to your tuner card on PC?

If you could explain your setup and list it please.

Could you keep all corraspondance on this issue on your thread please and not via email.

Thanks for the response about my tv tuner. I hope you can help me further. I still get the error : can not locate filter :can not locate TVTuner Filter ( Hauppauge Win TV 88x Tuner)? I ran my coax cable straight from my wall to the pci tv tuner in my computer. I do not own a cable box because I get basic cable from comcast only. You said something about running my TV set to the tuner card with the right hardware? The cable on the the tv is for input only, like on the tv tuner card. Any idea what the "filter is"? I am trying the Win Tv software and Sage Tv but I get errors from both. I am pretty sure all of the drivers and applications are updated.
Are you trying to get free cable TV without paying for it?

I am confused.

All you have to do is connect your TV to your tuner card.

So you dont own a cable box nore pay a monthly subscription?

So you thought if you connected the cable that should be connected to a digital reciver box,inserted cable into back of your computer you would get free cable?

Sorry for the confusion. I might be lost on the set up. I am not trying to get free cable. I pay for basic cable. I get about 30 channels. I thought I was supposed to run my cable wire from the wall to the TV tuner card in the back of my computer. I used a splitter and ran the cable from the wall to the splitter, one goes to the TV and one went to the TV tuner in my PC. I also tied without the splitter. Wall to PC. The audio cables from my TV tuner to my audio in the back of the PC (blue hole). Jellybean, are you saying the Tv tuner card in my PC goes straight to my Television? The cable wire on the Television is for cable in only. If I hook the cable wire from the TV tuner card on the PC to the Television, then I am not receiving a signal from the wall ( cable company )? Real basic, how do I hook it up. The owners manual for the Hauppauge Win TV 88 TV Tuner card says to hook up the antenna or cable to the TV Tuner card to the back of the card. That makes sense to me. The Cable Company Comcast Tv signal comes from Comcast into my home through the wall into the cable and into my TV Tuner PC Card. I want to watch and record TV shows on my computer. I have been corresponding with Hauppauge Help and Support but they just keep saying uninstall and reinstall drivers and Win TV 2000 software application. I always get it installed but my device manager says (unused function) next to Hauppauge TV Tuner.

To be honest I am so not sure on American TVs and there cable setup.Let me ask an American staffer for you.

Our cable is diffrent to yours.
