Exclamation graphics card display problems

hi,
i was checking my email on my laptop, pavilion zd8000, when all of a sudden the screen went white.

i can access safe mode, and VGA mode

i tried system restore, restore windows to lask known configuration and repaired windows with no luck.

when i uninstall the monitor and display adaptors, the computer boots up with no white screen but its very zoomed in (640x480) and the bit display is 8 bit. if i try to change this, the computer does not load normally and i need to access safe mode.

i tried to update the driver but this does not help.

under the monitors in device manager, there are 3 monitors (2 are default and one is plug and play monitor)
im not sure why there are 3 but by disabling or un-installing one of them affects my system.

any ideas?

this is correct my screen looks like that

i have tried to adjust the brightness but i still cant see the desktop im afraid

when i uninstalled the display driver in safe mode, the computer loads up as normal without the white screen but its very pixellated....as soon as i mess around with those settings, the screen turns black for a few seconds and then turns white again

Are you now able to check display settings and change your resolution and is it showing 32 bit or still 8 bit?

Did you download the driver from ATI website?Do you have the ATI control panel also installed?

nope.
i left the black screen with the mouse for a few minutes and the following happened:

A stop error screen appeared.

This is the first time i have seen this. the contents of this message is:

'Windows has been shut down....: ATI2dvag
The device driver got stuck in an infinite lop...this indicates a problem with the device or device driver programming the hardware incorrectly.

STOP: 0x000000EA (0X82E42DA8, 0X82F6ADA0, 0X82D57040, 0X00000001)

ATI2dvag
Dumping of physical memory to disk.'

i got the updated driver from HP where they emailed me the link.

Looks like that driver caused your computer to crash.Restart and repeatedly tap F8 and choose last known config or safe mode you need to uninstall that driver.

What is make and model number of that GPU?

Are you sure your laptop fans are clean and spinning?

Use this link:http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html and download correct driver by filling in the box,s.
