I have an older system, built in 2003. I originally had a radeon 9250 with a CRT monitor. About 1 1/2 yrs. ago I purchased a low grade 19" LCD flat panel monitor and a DVI cable (one was not supplied with monitor). When I connected the monitor to my pc via DVI I received a "no signal" message on my screen. So I plugged in my VGA cable and it worked so I left well enough alone. Recently my video card was acting up so I purchased a new to me nvidia 7300 gt 512mb AGP video card. I plugged in my DVI cable and was very happy at the picture I saw. After 3 days my happiness faded as I turned on my pc to see the "no signal" message again. my first thought was bad card, but after plugging in my VGA cable all is well. I really did like using the DVI cable and was hoping that someone might know what may cause the DVI cable issue.

Also, I do have the latest drivers installed.

It wouldn't be a software issue.

First of all check your screen for an option to switch between input modes. Many do, and some require that you manually select which one you would like to use, just like switching channels on a TV. Start your PC with the correct cable connected, rather than when everything is already up and running.

Otherwise, your best bet would to try a different cable. Also when purchasing the cable, try to make sure that it is less than 5 meters in length. Longer cables are supported, depending on the quality of the cable, and the hardware it is used on, but I would recommend 5 meters or less to be safe here.
