Hey dood, welcome to PCHF.

At what point does the monitor go black, when you switch to this resolution, when you try to launch a particular application, or randomly. If it's a CRT monitor it's unlikely to be able to support a resolution that high, what is the model number?

Many thanks for the warm welcome,

It is kinda randomly, the longest I have had it working is around 2 hours!! then it goes black for varying periods! then I have to close whatever program I opened and it comes back (then I have to drop my resolution) it appears to do it more with explorer (internet and windows) though today it did it with Outlook.

It is a brand new Samsung SyncMaster 2032MW LCD Monitor. My previous AGP card on my old pc (Dell Dimension 4400) worked fine at that res, and that was an ATI Radeon 9250 (If memory serves)

OK, so when the monitor goes black, you press [ALT]+[F4] for the program to close, and then it goes back to normal? When it goes black, does your screen go into standby after a short period?

That's right [ALT] + [F4} to close open progran, then after a couple of seconds it comes back.

No the monitor doesn't go into standby mode, and it has been black upto a minute.

So it's completely random, or is there a specific task that is happening at the time?

If you press the Windows key instead, do you see the Start menu appear over the blackness?
