Default [Pending] PCI-E 2.0, backwards compatible?

I was going to get an nvidia 9600GT, they're only just over £100, but they all seem to be PCI-Express 2.0 which I don't think my motherboard has. Would it work with an old connection and if so is it worth getting if its going to be working with a lower bandwidth? Would it make much difference if I got a more expensive 8800 with PCI-E 1?

Hi,

PCIe 2.0 is backward compatible with PCIe 1.1 as a physical interface slot and from within software, so older cards will still be able to work in machines fitted with this new version.

Thanks.
So it should work, but would it work as well as say a similar card with PCI-E v1?

Hi, while not entireley sure of your question above, i notice you mentioned the 8800 being much more expensive than the 9600 take a look here
8800gt for £109 which IMO is a much better card

Is it better? I got the impression it would be slighty slower.

Also the one you linked to is also PCI-Express 2.0, if I went with an 8800 I'm guessing I'd be able to find a PCIe 1.1 one to match my motherboard. What I want to know is would it make any difference?

Sorry, Inno3D 8800GT 512MB GDDR3 Wind Edition Cooler Dual DVI TV Out PCI-E Graphics Card - Ebuyer Pci-e card

Its swings and roundabouts with the 8800 and the 9600, one or the other scores higher at different things, my personal preference would be the 8800gt
