I went into BIOS but didnt see load default settings, but I did see optimized settings and fail-safe settings. i tried both. I got the same message with optimized but hangs at POST screen "verifying dmi pool data: Update sucess
BIOS hangs at different times. Then I gotta reset or restart. The screen goes blank and I gotta restart again.
It booted from the CD but it hung again at the same screen as before: "setup is inspecting your computers hardware configuration>>>isn't that the start of winxp install
is my computer done for?
Has anyone else had any problems like this?

The next thing to try would be to remove all hardware from the PC that is not required. Remove extra cards RAM ect and try boot of the XP CD again

I removed all the unnecessary hardware but I still got the same message, can't find ntldr and it wouldn't boot off the cd.

Is the CD on it's own lead or is it shared with the hard drive? Also check the connections to the CD drive there must be a reason it's not booting off the CD drive can it see the CD drive in the BIOS?

sometimes it will boot off the cd, but it hangs at "setup is inspecting....configuration"
but i havent checked to see if the cd drive is on its own lead or not, but i will check on that.

Hello again
I checked the cd drive and it is running off its own cable and BIOS does recognize it at POST. I finally got it to boot off the CD but it hung at "starting win xp preinstallation environment" sounds like the computer revs up pretty high right before that screen, then slows down and vice versa for a couple of times. I tried it again and it hung at the same screen but it got a lil farther "if you need to install 3rd party SCSI or RAID driver..."
So I rebooted again. This time the screen was blank.
It also makes a whining noise like florescent lights do, dont know if that means anything.
Is my computer done for? or do I need another fan/and or pc?
